47 vocalists qualify for state level in May
Choir sudents earned 65 Division I ratings with 47 of those qualifying for state at UIL solo and ensemble tryouts on Feb. 4 in Odessa. State qualifiers will compete on May 26-27 in the Austin area.
Students who earned a first divivion in Class I solos included senior Kameran Beaty, junior Lavinia Bergmann, junior Elijah Becker, senior Kayla Coon, sophomore Blue Franklin, sophomore Alexis Hastings, sophomore Hope Hicks, freshman Sawyer Jenkins, senior Heidi Klassen, sophomore Susie Loewen, senior Ashley Neudorf, sophomore Davannah Philipp, senior Justice Smith, freshman Easton Swinnea, sophomore Judy Thiessen, senior Jasmin Torres, senior Ed Velo and senior Krystal Villanueva.
The men’s quartet with seniors Miles Caviness, Juan Espino, Mason Griffin and Tanner Moore made a Division I.
The women’s trio of senior Chastin Jackson, junior Haley Gann and Torres made a Division I.
The four madrigal ensembles made Division I’s: Madrigal I–junior Joy Dove, Franklin, Griffin, senior Brooklynn James, sophomore Kaley Johnson, junior Desiree Neudorf, senior Matraca Penner, junior Roman Ruiz, Swinnea and Villalva; Madrigal II–sophomore Michael Garza, sophomore Trevor Greenfield, sophomore Jadon Hatley, A. Neudorf, Philipp, Thiessen and junior Nancy Zacharias; Madrigal III–junior Pranav Dave, senior Sam Friessen, senior Naomi Garcia, Hicks, sophomore Kourtney Kildow, sophomore David Letkeman and junior Amairani Letkeman; Madrigal IV– Becker, Bergmann, freshman Josh Easterbrooks, freshman Aliyah Hawkins, sophomore Shauntell Hawkins, sophomore Madolyn Karr, freshman Tori Phillips, freshman Jordan Smith, Velo and freshman Alissa Wright.
The following students earned first divisions on their Class II solos: A. Hawkins, freshman Arin Hindman, Phillips, freshman Sierra Talamentes, freshman Tammy Tran and Wright. Students who perform Class II solos cannot advance to state competitions.
