83 musicians qualify for state solo and ensemble

Sixty-four band students competed in the UIL solo and ensemble competition on Feb. 4 in Monahans where members earned 86 Division I’s and 16 Division II’s.

“We are very proud of our students,” band Director Jimmie Exline said. “This is the largest number of students we have had to qualify during my tenure.”

Of the 86 Division I’s, 83 qualified with Class I pieces for state on May 28 in Pflugerville.

Division I’s included:

Soloists: junior Lavinia Bergmann-flute, sophomore Chelsey Froese-flute, senior Justice Smith-trombone.

Ensembles: clarinet quartet of freshman Salvador Antillon, sophomore Valarie Krahn, senior Dayton Pedigo and senior Madison Wood; woodwind ensemble–senior Erick Acosta, sophomore Danyelle Alvarado, junior Cera Castillo, freshman Kevin Flores, senior Bianca Galindo, junior Anna Harms, sophomore Ramon Juarez, senior Espy Moralez, sophomore Alyssa Nunez, junior Susie Rempel, senior Isabell Resendez and freshman Raquel Rivera; woodwind ensemble–Antillon, C.
