The Maiden powerlifting season ended  with four placing in the top 12 at state competition in Corpus Christi on March 15.

Junior Sara Medrano tied for seventh in the 220-pound category with a total of 810 pounds (squat 330 pounds, bench press 145 pounds, dead lift 335 pounds).

Freshman Amanda Rodriguez took 11th in the 114-pound category with a total of 590 pounds (squat 230 pounds, bench press 110 pounds, dead lift 250 pounds).

Sophomore Brittany Kelly was 12th in the 148-pound category with a total of 740 pounds (squat 295 pounds, bench press 130 pounds, dead lift 315 pounds).

Sophomore Madi Werner was 12th in the 105-pound category with a total of 545 pounds (squat 210 pounds, bench press 95 pounds, dead lift 240 pounds).

Coach Thomas Snethen nicknamed his team the Iron Maidens as they broke school records throughout the season like coming in as runnerup at the regional meet, qualifying 13 lifters for regionals, having three region champions and four state qualifiers, and qualifying the first freshman Maiden to state.

“The girls represented Seminole extremely well,” Snethen said. “2015 should be an even better year building on the foundation of this squad.”
